QUAS - Development of a specific, quantitative measurement method to verify phagocytosis

Phagocytosis, the uptake of pathogens, particles, or cell debris by specialized cells, is crucial for human health. Defects can cause immunodeficiency syndromes.

In routine testing, there has been established only one simple test system, representing exclusively the phagocytosis of labelled E. coli.

Recent knowledge of specific receptors and their mutations underlying diseases raised the need for more specific test systems.

Here, we will establish a new method to detect those processes based on covalent dyes bound to specific ligands.

We will use a modern microscopic system and analysis software to set up a new routine system.
